The Montana YMCA Youth and Government Program provides a fun and educational Youth Legislature and Model Supreme Court for high school students which allows them to learn about state government and the political process. The program is based on the rules, procedures, and traditions of the real Montana Legislature and Supreme Court.

You Got Paged by Krista Stone & Destiny Haines
One of the groups of people that participate in the Youth Legislature program and seem to get no respect is our pages. They are treated with contempt more often than not. They are hard workers and should be appreciated for what they do for our mock government and us. To hear the voice behind the feet, we went straight to the street. Amber Gardner and Kelly Anderson, both pages for their fi rst year in the Senate, said that being a page is “dumb” and that their “feet hurt.” The fact that “your feet hurt” is Amber’s least favorite part of being a page. For Kelly, the worst part is the “walking in front of everyone.” Being a page isn’t bad for everyone, however. Whitney Anderson, a page for her fi rst year in the Senate, stated, “It’s good, I guess. It’s hard to fi nd people,” and Danielle Sundvold said, “It’s really fun. We get to meet new people and we get to explore.” Evan Barrett feels that his page duties are “a lot of fun.” To him, being a page contains “a lot of responsibility even though you don’t realize it.” Another, Jorie Tash, said that she doesn’t know what to think of being a page. It’s something that “just has to be done.” Faith Setterstrom, another fi rst year page for the Senate, said that being a page is “interesting.” You get to see a lot of the capital, maybe some parts that you wouldn’t usually see.” Jacob Perry stated that as a page he “kind of just walks around all the time.” He thinks that being a page is “better than sitting in a committee room and discussing bills that don’t apply” to real life. Some other comments were that the worst part of being a page is that people tell them what to do. Another least favorite part of being a page is when they receive a ton of notes and they don’t know where the rooms are. In contrast, it’s nice being able to get to know the capital. In an odd twist, it turns out that there are a few pages that fi nd their duties rather enjoyable. and… THEY DO READ YOUR NOTES!!
